Need guide for Honolulu and Maui?

I’m going to Honolulu and Maui next week for honeymoon and I do not have any idea on what to see, what to do, what to eat, where to shop, etc. Can you recommend some must-go and must-sees? How do I go about travelling around? Public transport or should I rent a car?
Is it cold to go into the waters at this time? How is the weather like now? Thanks so much for your help!

On Maui you should definitely rent a car. On Oahu, it is up to you. Personally, I would use the bus, cab, or trolley because driving on Oahu is a nightmare. I am on Maui right now and it is 73 degrees at sea level at 9:30 AM. The water temperature is just below that, so it is warm. When on Maui, you should make sure and go on a whale watch, drive the road to Hana, and go to a luau. Check with your concierge as to where to dine. Have a great time and congratulations!

Shine is correct, the road to Hana is very beautiful but “don’t rent a car and do it on your own”! We locals don’t like it when rental cars drive it because you don’t know the rules of the road. Take a Hana tour with Polyad 800-662-3011 or Mahalo Tours 877-262-4256. Your concierge or a travel desk can help you. I don’t recommend the others. To eat at a special restaurant try Mamas Fish House 808-579-8488 (Paia) were you can probably see a celebrity or two, try the mac-nut crusted Mahi Mahi. See Haleakala (you can drive it yourself) and on the way down visit Tedeschi Winery in Ulupalakua. Also, since you will be going through Kahului go to Wailuku and see Iao Valley and the needle. Go to the south side Makena and see big beach and La Perouse Bay. Please respect the culture and locals and you will experience the Aloha Spirit, don’t make fun of our foods (Spam at McDonalds) or our words (Humuhumunukunukuapua). Mahalo.

i’ve lived on maui for almost 30 years, and was a tour director oland and on horseback for 8 years and i married into a big hawaiian family, so i know a couple of places. but anyway the only real differences between our winter months and the mainlands is we get more rain, and the waters are rougher in winter months. if you look at oahu and maui. geographically. wailea and waikiki hav exact weather. maui has a new public transit. not as reliable as most just yet. their heart is there though. waters not cold. sometime warmer than outside air. i live in paia. on north shore of maui. if ya’ll have any qustions let me know. bubbamulkey@yahoo.com
