Dutch Travel guides often drop clues about an car-free NYC in weekends? Is this true?

I’m planning a trip to NYC next summer. When reading (dutch) travel guides about the city, I get the idea that there’s a car limit during weekends? That’s what the Dutch say, anyway. So is this true? Are weekends in New York City really car-free? Please, tell me about it.
Thank you so much!
(By the way: Sorry for my bad English)

Nope. There are at times limits on traffic in the lower parts of Manhattan, but the rest of the city doesn’t have any regular restrictions, and certainly no car-free weekends.

No– what you’re hearing about is closure to cars on summer weekends of a few specific streets — just a handful of them, out of the thousands of streets in NYC

Dag, no, we have something called Summer Streets where just a portion of Park Avenue for a few blocks is closed to traffic.
Also in the summer time on weekends, traffic in many areas of the Manhattan is lighter in general because people go to The Hamptons, The Jersey shore and elsewhere for the weekends.

BTW, if you speak English as nicely as you write it, you’ll be one of the better-speaking people in the city. MANY residents – even many of the native born kids – can’t put one whole sentence together without making 3 grammatical errors. A literate American who’s never been in NYC could have written your post.

Well, it sounds like Dutch travel guides about New York City are just about as bad as USA travel guides are about Amsterdam!
They may be referring to the fact that ALL of Central Park is closed to cars on weekends, but, other than that, no, there’s no such thing as car-free weekends here at all, sorry!
And DON’T apologize for your English, you sound far better than most of the Americans who write in here, to tell you the truth!
Good luck, and the link below is to a webpage about Central Park, which is huge, by the way…
